Mary Ellen Flaherty

Mary Ellen Flaherty, BSc (Hons), MISCP, CORU Reg. No.: PT028713 is our senior physiotherapist in Medical, Oncology and Vestibular rehabilitation and is now a specialist Lymphoedema practitioner registered with MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage), Ireland. She qualified from University College Dublin with an honours degree in Physiotherapy in 1995. Having worked in Dublin in both in the private and public sectors, Mary Ellen went on to travel and work in Africa in a physiotherapy consultancy role with APSO (Agency for Personal Services Overseas) for two years. She was based in a Provincial hospital in southern Zimbabwe and was a member of the Zimbabwean Physiotherapy Association. Returning to Galway in 2000 she continued to work in both the private and public sectors in primarily musculoskeletal services. She joined the Galway Clinic Orthopaedic team in 2004. Mary Ellen is one of our physiotherapist student clinical educators. She also acts as an external supervisor and examiner of international physiotherapists who require specialist training, prior to being awarded CORU registration to practise in the Republic of Ireland.
